Home Exchange in Vienna

No verified homes listed in Vienna yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Vienna moves to the rhythm of coffee spoons on porcelain and the rustle of newspaper pages in century-old cafés. Beyond the grand imperial boulevards, neighbourhoods like Neubau and Josefstadt hum with wine taverns, independent bookshops, and corner bakeries where locals queue for Buchteln on Sunday mornings. The Danube cuts quietly through the eastern edge, while the Vienna Woods rise green to the west. Summer means open-air cinema in the Augarten and Spritzers on canal-side terraces; winter brings Christmas markets scented with roasted chestnuts and the warmth of a Heuriger.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Vienna feel most local?

Neubau and Josefstadt offer cobbled streets, independent shops, and neighbourhood Beisln without the tourist crowds. Across the canal, Leopoldstadt mixes old Jewish Quarter history with the sprawling Prater park. Further out, Ottakring and Hernals have traditional Heurigen wine taverns tucked into vineyard-edged hillsides. Each district has its own rhythm — some quiet and residential, others lively with markets and late-night bars. Trams connect them all, so it's easy to slip between worlds.
