Home Exchange in Sofia
No verified homes listed in Sofia yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Sofia sits in a bowl of mountains, where Roman ruins share pavements with Soviet monuments and glass towers. The city moves to a slower rhythm than most European capitals — locals linger over banitsa and boza at corner bakeries, then disappear into the mineral springs that bubble up through the metro stations. Neighbourhoods like Lozenets blend nineteenth-century villas with wine bars, while the slopes of Vitosha loom close enough to hike before lunch. Winter brings snow to the boulevards; summer fills the gradini with linden shade and cold beer.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the rhythm of the seasons in Sofia?
Sofia's continental climate swings wide. Winters are crisp and snowy, perfect for quick escapes to Vitosha's ski runs just above the city. Spring arrives late but dramatic, with blossoms flooding the parks by May. Summers are warm and dry, ideal for terrace dinners and mountain trails. Autumn stretches long and golden, with chestnuts roasting on street corners and mist settling in the valleys. Each season reshapes the city — locals adjust their routines to match.
