Home Exchange in Chile

0 verified homes

Chile unfurls like a ribbon along South America's western edge, a country of extremes where the driest desert meets glacial fjords and the Andes form a constant eastern backdrop. In Santiago, neighbourhoods like Bellavista hum with street art and pisco sours, while Valparaíso's colourful hillside homes cling to steep cerros above the Pacific. The north offers star-filled Atacama nights, the south delivers Patagonian wilderness, and everywhere you'll find warm hospitality, excellent wine, and a cuisine shaped by ocean and mountain alike.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Chile?

Chile's seasons reverse the northern hemisphere, so summer runs December through February — ideal for Patagonia trekking and beach towns, though Santiago can get hot. Autumn (March-May) brings wine harvest and mild weather in the Central Valley. Winter (June-August) means Andean skiing near Santiago and fewer crowds in the north's deserts, where days stay warm. Spring (September-November) offers wildflower blooms in the Atacama and comfortable temperatures across the country. The length of Chile means you can find good conditions somewhere year-round.
