Home Exchange in Helsinki
No verified homes listed in Helsinki yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Helsinki sits where the Baltic meets granite and pine, a city of islands and design studios, where winter light lasts barely four hours and summer never quite gets dark. Kallio hums with old workers' cafés turned wine bars, Punavuori shelters Scandinavian furniture showrooms and second-hand bookshops, and the harbourfront smells of cinnamon buns and tar-black coffee. Trams rattle past Art Nouveau facades, saunas hide in apartment basements, and on clear evenings the sea freezes into walking paths. It's a place that feels both Nordic-reserved and unexpectedly warm once you're inside.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to visit Helsinki?
Late spring through early autumn offers long daylight and outdoor life—harbour markets, island hopping, forest walks without darkness closing in at four. But winter has its own pull: proper snow, frozen sea views, and that particular Finnish cosiness of wool socks and wood-fired saunas. December's dark and magical, though January and February test your tolerance for cold. May and June bring sudden green and a city-wide exhale. Avoid late November if you need daylight to feel human.
