Home Exchange in Indonesia

0 verified homes

Indonesia unfurls across thousands of islands, each with its own rhythm. In Java, you might wake to the call to prayer drifting over rice terraces, then spend afternoons in warungs where sambal arrives in clay bowls. Bali's southern beaches hum with surfers and ceremony, while the north stays quieter, wrapped in mist and coffee plantations. Sulawesi's highlands feel remote, the air sharp and cool. Sumatra's jungles press close to the road. Everywhere, the same hospitality: a smile, an offer of tea, a question about where you're from. The country moves between monsoon and dry season, between cities that never sleep and villages where roosters set the schedule.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Indonesia?

The dry season runs roughly May through September, ideal for island-hopping and hiking volcanoes without the afternoon downpours. But timing varies by region—eastern islands like Maluku stay drier later in the year, while Sumatra's west coast sees rain year-round. If you're chasing fewer crowds, the shoulder months of April and October offer decent weather with quieter beaches. Cultural calendars matter too: Ramadan shifts yearly, and Bali's Nyepi (Day of Silence) in March means a full island shutdown—beautiful if you're already there, tricky if you're just arriving.
