Home Exchange in Porto
No verified homes listed in Porto yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Porto clings to the hillsides above the Douro, its tiled facades catching the Atlantic light in shades of ochre and cobalt. Mornings smell of salt air and fresh bread from corner padarias. The Ribeira's medieval tangle gives way to tree-lined avenues in Boavista, while Foz do Douro opens onto the ocean. Francesinha drips with sauce in tascas, port cellars age their cargo across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia, and trams rattle past azulejo-covered churches. It's a city that moves slowly, built on steep stone and old rhythms.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to visit Porto?
Late spring and early autumn bring warm days without the summer crush, ideal for wandering the Ribeira or the coastal path at Foz. Winters are mild and wet, the city wrapped in mist and quieter crowds. Summer means festival season and long golden evenings, though the historic centre fills with visitors. September often offers the sweetest balance: harvest light, lingering warmth, and the city easing back into its own pace.
