Home Exchange in Ljubljana
No verified homes listed in Ljubljana yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Ljubljana feels like a secret kept by those who know. The Ljubljanica River cuts through the old town, its banks lined with willow trees and café tables where locals linger over coffee that's taken seriously. Jože Plečnik's architecture—bridges, colonnades, a market arcade—gives the city a distinct rhythm, neither quite Austro-Hungarian nor Balkan, but unmistakably its own. Autumn smells of roasted chestnuts near the Triple Bridge. Spring brings the castle hill into sharp green focus. It's a capital that moves at human speed, where you can walk most places and still feel like you've travelled somewhere unhurried.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which neighbourhoods capture Ljubljana's character best?
The Old Town around Prešeren Square and along the river is where visitors naturally gravitate—cobblestones, Plečnik's touches, the castle overhead. But locals love Trnovo and Krakovo just south, quiet streets with gardens and the Gradaščica canal, perfect for an evening walk. Metelkova, the former military barracks turned alternative culture hub, offers a grittier, creative side. Across the river, the Centre district around Slovenska cesta mixes Art Nouveau façades with everyday Slovenian life—bakeries, wine bars, less tourist theatre.
