Home Exchange in Sweden

0 verified homes

Sweden unfolds in layers: Stockholm's archipelago of 30,000 islands, forests that glow amber in autumn, and Midsummer nights when the sun barely dips. In the south, half-timbered towns and apple orchards give way to Gothenburg's canals and seafood halls. Head north and you'll find Sami reindeer herders, the midnight sun, and silence so complete it hums. Fika isn't just coffee and cardamom buns—it's a daily ritual of slowing down. Whether you're drawn to design studios in Södermalm or lakeside cabins where the only neighbours are moose, Sweden rewards those who embrace its particular rhythm: unhurried, egalitarian, attuned to the seasons.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to experience Sweden?

Summer (June–August) brings endless daylight, warm swimming lakes, and Midsummer celebrations, but it's also peak season. Spring and autumn offer moody forests, fewer crowds, and lower prices. Winter transforms the north into aurora territory—Kiruna and Abisko are prime spots—while Stockholm's Christmas markets glow under early twilight. Swedes themselves escape to cabins year-round, so every season has its own appeal. If you want to experience the midnight sun, aim for late June above the Arctic Circle.
