Home Exchange in Cambridge

No verified homes listed in Cambridge yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Cambridge unfolds along the River Cam in slow punts and ancient courtyards, where honey-coloured stone glows against manicured lawns. Beyond the university's famous colleges, neighbourhoods like Romsey and Chesterton hum with terraced houses, independent bakeries, and pubs where locals debate everything over a pint. Cyclists weave through narrow lanes, past market squares selling fenland asparagus in spring and fat strawberries come summer. The air smells of old books and fresh rain, and evenings stretch long in riverside gardens where you can hear chapel bells marking time as they have for centuries.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods feel most local in Cambridge?

Venture beyond the college core to Romsey Town for Victorian terraces and cosy cafés, or Chesterton for riverside paths and family-run greengrocers. Mill Road runs like a spine through the city's more bohemian side, lined with international grocers, vintage shops, and curry houses that draw everyone from students to longtime residents. These pockets feel lived-in and unhurried, where you'll queue for bread at the same bakery as your neighbours and catch the rhythm of a Cambridge that exists beyond the tourist trail.
