Home Exchange in Durban

No verified homes listed in Durban yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Durban wakes to the sound of waves and the smell of bunny chow simmering in curry houses along the beachfront. It's a city where Zulu heritage, Indian spice markets, and surf culture layer into something unmistakably its own — not quite Joburg's hustle, not quite Cape Town's postcard gloss, but a humid, generous rhythm that rewards slow mornings and long lunches. Stay in a home here and you'll find yourself shopping at the Warwick Junction spice stalls, timing your days around the tide at North Beach, and understanding why locals never leave the subtropical coast for long. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Durban?

Durban's subtropical climate makes it warm year-round, but winter (May to September) offers the most comfortable weather — dry, sunny days around 23°C, perfect for the beachfront promenade and exploring neighbourhoods like Morningside or Glenwood. Summer brings humidity and afternoon thunderstorms, but also the warmest ocean and a festival calendar that peaks around December. Locals favour the shoulder months of April and October for balancing good weather with fewer holiday crowds along the Golden Mile.
