Home Exchange Destinations Worldwide

50 countries · 392 curated cities · 26 verified homes

Home exchange reshapes what travel can look like. Instead of booking a hotel room for a week and paying cash, you open your place to another member when you're away, earn a credit for every night you host, and spend those credits anywhere in the network — from a Lisbon apartment to a Tokyo machiya to a Buenos Aires loft. There is no money between members and no lock-in to any single destination. The home you already live in becomes the passport that unlocks the rest. Browse the destinations below to see where the community is already active, and pick the country that matches the trip you want to take.

Frequently asked questions

Does it matter which country I choose to home exchange in?

Not in the way it would with a hotel. Every home on the network is verified by our team before it goes live, and the credit economy is identical everywhere — one night hosted, one night earned, anywhere. What changes from country to country is the cultural layer: cuisine, pace, what a 'neighbourhood stay' actually feels like. Pick the country that matches the trip you want, not the one with the most listings — small communities often mean more attentive hosts.

What if the destination I want isn't listed yet?

Open the country page anyway and tap 'Notify me when homes go live' — that tells us there is real demand, and our outreach team prioritises host acquisition in destinations with the most waitlist signal. In the meantime you can already host travellers coming to your area and start building a credit balance, so when the destination unlocks you're ready to travel straight away.

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
