Home Exchange in Mexico
0 verified homes
Mexico hums with a thousand rhythms at once — the clatter of a molcajete grinding chiles in a Oaxacan market, the crash of Pacific surf against Baja cliffs, the evening paseo through a colonial plaza where families walk loops until dark. To stay here like a local is to slip into that layered cadence: breakfast tacos from a corner stand, midday siestas behind thick walls that hold the cool, late suppers that stretch past midnight. Hotels keep you at arm's length from the kitchen smells, the neighbour's radio, the dog that barks at the same hour every morning. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which regions of Mexico offer the most distinct local experiences?
The colonial heartland — Guanajuato, San Miguel, Oaxaca — rewards slow wandering through cobbled streets and artisan workshops. The Yucatán blends Mayan villages with Caribbean coastline, where cenotes and jungle sit minutes apart. Baja and the Pacific coast draw surfers and seafood lovers to dusty fishing towns that feel a world away from resort strips. Mexico City's sprawling neighbourhoods each carry their own personality, from the art deco elegance of Condesa to the markets and cantinas of Centro. Choose by craving: culture, coast, or capital.
