Home Exchange in Indonesia

0 verified homes

Indonesia unfolds across 17,000 islands, each with its own accent of spice, prayer call, and morning market rhythm. To stay here like a local is to wake to the scent of clove cigarettes and sweet kopi, to learn which warung makes the best nasi goreng, to time your day around the equatorial downpour that cools every afternoon. Hotels keep you at arm's length from the kampung alleyways, the family-run warungs, the temple ceremonies that spill into the streets. The homes below open the door to that rhythm—kitchens stocked with sambal, verandas facing rice terraces or city lanes, neighbours who'll teach you to say *selamat pagi* properly.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Indonesia?

The dry season from May to September offers the sunniest skies, ideal for island-hopping and temple visits. But the wet season has its own charm—fewer crowds, lush green landscapes, and cheaper accommodation. Bali and Java are pleasant year-round, though afternoons bring brief tropical downpours. If you're chasing surf, the seasons flip between coasts: western shores peak May–September, eastern breaks come alive November–March. Cultural calendars matter too—Ramadan and Nyepi (Balinese New Year) reshape rhythms beautifully, though some services pause.
