Home Exchange in Singapore

0 verified homes

The scent of kaya toast and kopi-O drifts through hawker centres before dawn, while the skyline hums with cranes reshaping tomorrow's silhouette. Singapore rewards the traveller who slows down enough to notice the five-foot-way shophouses in Joo Chiat, the wet market routines in Tiong Bahru, the temple incense curling through Chinatown's narrow lanes. A hotel room keeps you at arm's length from the real rhythm — the pre-dinner walk to the provision shop, the weekend queue at the chicken rice stall everyone's uncle swears by. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Singapore feel most residential and local?

Tiong Bahru offers art deco charm and morning market culture. Katong and Joo Chiat reveal Peranakan heritage through pastel shophouses and family-run bakeries. Holland Village and Bukit Timah sit near greenery and weekend hawker crowds. Outram and Tanjong Pagar blend old trades with new cafés. These pockets reward wandering on foot — less polished than the CBD, closer to how Singaporeans actually live between the MRT and the kopitiam.
