Home Exchange in Tallinn
No verified homes listed in Tallinn yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Tallinn smells like cinnamon and woodsmoke in winter, like linden blossoms and Baltic salt in summer. The Old Town's cobblestones and church spires draw the crowds, but the real rhythm lives in Kalamaja's wooden houses, Kadriorg's park paths, and the kitchen tables where black bread and herring still anchor breakfast. Staying in a local home means waking to the clatter of trams on Narva maantee, shopping at Balti Jaama Turg where vendors speak three languages, and understanding why Estonians leave their shoes at the door. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which neighbourhoods in Tallinn feel most local?
Kalamaja, just north of the centre, is where wooden houses meet new cafés and young families. Kadriorg stretches east toward the sea, leafy and residential, with the presidential palace and park at its heart. Pelgulinn and Kopli are grittier, less polished, where Russian is spoken as often as Estonian. Most locals live in Soviet-era panel blocks ringing the centre — Mustamäe, Lasnamäe — functional and connected by tram, far from the postcard but close to daily life.
