Home Exchange in Ireland

0 verified homes

Ireland arrives first as a sound: rain on a slate roof, a fiddle warming up in a corner pub, the Atlantic wind rattling a sash window. To stay here properly is to fall into the rhythm of long kitchen table conversations, where tea stretches into hours and stories unspool without hurry. The country rewards slow mornings—markets in Georgian quarters, coastal walks that turn grey sky into theatre, dinners that begin at dusk and end when someone finally stands to stoke the fire. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which regions of Ireland offer the most authentic local experience?

The west coast—Galway, Clare, Kerry—gives you dramatic coastline, traditional music sessions, and villages where Irish is still spoken daily. Dublin and Cork blend Georgian architecture with café culture and walkable creative quarters. The midlands and border counties move slower: market towns, canal paths, lakes that reflect enormous skies. Spring and autumn bring softer light and fewer crowds, though summer opens up island ferries and outdoor festivals. Most places are reachable by bus or train from Dublin, but a car unlocks the peninsulas and back roads where the country feels most itself.
