Home Exchange in Malta

0 verified homes

Malta hums with the particular sound of shutters rattling open at dawn, church bells layering over harbour water, and Maltese spoken rapid-fire in stone-walled cafés. This archipelago compressed centuries of empire—Phoenician, Arab, Norman, Knights of St John—into honeyed limestone streets barely wider than a fishing boat. To stay here is to slip into a rhythm shaped by festa calendars and ftira bread still warm from the baker, where neighbours know which bell belongs to which parish and summer means diving off flat rocks into water so clear you can count the urchins below. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Malta?

April through June and September through October offer warm, swimmable seas without the peak summer crush, when temperatures hover comfortably and village festas light up weekends. July and August bring intense heat and crowds, especially around Valletta and the beaches. Winter is mild and quieter—ideal for exploring fortified cities and coastal walks—though some island restaurants close and the sea's too brisk for most. Spring wildflowers carpet the cliffs, and autumn light turns the limestone golden.
