Home Exchange in Ljubljana

No verified homes listed in Ljubljana yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The clatter of bicycle spokes on cobblestone announces Ljubljana long before you see the dragon bridges. Slovenia's capital moves at a different tempo—café tables spill across car-free squares, the castle hill glows pink at dusk, and Sunday markets smell of pumpkin oil and wild mushrooms hauled down from the Julian Alps. This is a city best understood from a kitchen window above Trnovo, or a balcony facing the Ljubljanica's willow-lined bends, where the rhythm isn't tourist but resident: early-morning runs along the river, late-afternoon wine in Metelkova, the weekly trip to the Central Market for ajdovi žganci ingredients. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When does Ljubljana feel most itself?

Late spring through early autumn, when the riverside terraces fill and the city lives outdoors. The dragon boat races in June and the summer festival transform the old town into an open-air stage, but September might be the secret—students return, the chestnut trees along Vegova turn gold, and the wine bars in Krakovo pour the first young wines from the Vipava Valley. Winter's quieter, but the Christmas market and the snow-dusted castle have their own pull. The city's compact enough that rain never ruins a day—you're always five minutes from a gallery or a bowl of jota.
