Home Exchange in Bilbao

No verified homes listed in Bilbao yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Bilbao smells like rain on stone and warm pintxos oil at noon. The Nervión River cuts through a city that reinvented itself without erasing its industrial bones—Frank Gehry's titanium curves rise beside Belle Époque balconies and working-class taverns where locals argue over football in Euskara. This is a place where you eat standing up, where the Casco Viejo's seven streets hide century-old shops, and where the green hills of Artxanda frame every sunset. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Bilbao feel most local?

The Casco Viejo (Old Quarter) pulses with pintxo bars and small grocers, though it tilts touristy near the plaza. Cross the river to Deusto or Indautxu for residential calm, tree-lined streets, and neighbourhood markets. Bilbao La Vieja, once rough-edged, now hums with artists and family-run cafés. For views and quiet, Begoña climbs the hillside above the basilica—locals walk up for air and perspective.
