Home Exchange in Sydney

No verified homes listed in Sydney yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Sydney wraps around one of the world's great harbours, where ferry commutes feel like sightseeing and weekend mornings begin with ocean swims. The city moves between Eastern Beaches surf breaks and the sandstone coves of the harbour foreshore, between laneway coffee in Surry Hills and evening light catching the sails of the Opera House. Jacarandas bloom purple in spring, cicadas hum through summer, and the smell of salt follows you from Bondi to Balmain. It's a place that lives outdoors — tables spill onto pavements, walking tracks thread through bushland minutes from the CBD, and the rhythm tilts toward early starts and long golden evenings.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which Sydney neighbourhoods feel most local?

Inner-west pockets like Newtown and Marrickville pulse with Vietnamese bakeries, vintage shops, and pub gardens under Moreton Bay figs. The Eastern Suburbs — Paddington, Woollahra, Bronte — lean leafier and coastal, with markets on Saturdays and clifftop walks. North Shore suburbs like Mosman and Cremorne offer quiet harbour beaches and ferry access. For village life with harbour views, try Balmain or Birchgrove. Each area has its own cadence, but all share that Sydney habit of living half-outside, year-round.
