Home Exchange in Bruges
No verified homes listed in Bruges yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Bruges moves at the pace of a canal boat gliding under stone bridges. Cobbled lanes wind past step-gabled houses the colour of burnt sienna and cream, their reflections trembling in water older than most European cities. Chocolate shops exhale cocoa-scented air, and bell towers chime the quarter-hour while cyclists weave through medieval squares. Beyond the postcard centre, residential streets hum with the quiet life of a Flemish market town — bakeries selling speculoos, corner cafés where locals read De Standaard over coffee, and tree-lined paths tracing the old ramparts.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When does Bruges feel most itself?
Early mornings in any season, before the day-trippers arrive, when mist rises off the canals and you hear only footsteps on stone. Late autumn and winter bring fog and low light that suits the Gothic architecture, while spring sees the city's gardens and hofjes bloom. Locals favour the quieter eastern neighbourhoods around Sint-Annakerk, where the rhythm feels more residential and less museum-like. Midweek visits outside school holidays let you experience Bruges as a living town rather than a set piece.
