Home Exchange in Bruges
No verified homes listed in Bruges yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Bruges wakes to the sound of bells — not alarm clocks — ringing from belfries that have marked the hours for seven centuries. Beyond the daytime crowds clustered around the Markt, the city reveals itself in early morning mist over the Groenerei canal, in the smell of fresh speculoos from a bakery on Steenstraat, in the rhythm of bicycles crossing cobblestone bridges. To stay here is to slip into that older tempo: breakfast in a brick townhouse kitchen, an evening walk when the swans reclaim the water, a night when the only sound is your own footsteps on stone. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When does Bruges feel most like itself?
Early spring and late autumn strip away the tour-bus layer and return the city to its residents. Mornings any time of year — before ten, when the canal reflections are still glassy and the chocolate shops haven't opened — belong to locals on bicycles and dog-walkers crossing humpback bridges. Winter brings a particular magic: frost on the gabled rooftops, wood smoke from café chimneys, and the Christmas market that feels medieval rather than commercial. Stay beyond a day trip, and you'll catch the city exhaling after sunset.
