Home Exchange in Pécs

No verified homes listed in Pécs yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Pécs unfolds in layers—Ottoman mosques crowned with copper domes, early Christian burial chambers beneath the cathedral square, and Art Nouveau façades lining streets that climb toward the Mecsek hills. The southernmost city in Hungary feels softer than Budapest, warmed by a microclimate that coaxes figs and almonds from courtyard gardens. University students fill the cafés around Széchenyi tér, debating over kávé and pogácsa, while the Zsolnay quarter glows with ceramic tiles in jewel tones. Summer evenings stretch long here, the air thick with acacia blossoms, and the city's rhythm slows to match the heat.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What makes Pécs different from other Hungarian cities?

Pécs carries a distinctly Mediterranean temperament, shaped by centuries of Ottoman rule and its position near the Croatian border. The city centre mixes Turkish bath ruins with Baroque churches and a remarkable collection of Zsolnay ceramics—the iridescent eosin-glazed tiles are everywhere. The Mecsek hills provide a green backdrop and cooler air in summer, while the university keeps the cultural calendar lively. Spring and early autumn are ideal, when the southern sun is gentle and the outdoor terraces along Király utca come alive without the peak summer heat.
