Home Exchange in Belfast

No verified homes listed in Belfast yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Belfast hums with a particular energy — shipyard cranes still loom over the waterfront where the Titanic was born, while Victorian pubs spill warmth and fiddle music onto cobbled lanes. The city wears its history frankly, from the political murals of West Belfast to the Georgian elegance of the Cathedral Quarter. Mornings smell of soda bread and strong tea. Evenings might mean oysters at St. George's Market or a slow pint in the Crown Liquor Saloon's snug. Beyond the city, the Causeway Coast and the Mournes wait within an hour's drive, but Belfast itself rewards those who linger — it's a place that opens slowly, then all at once.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Belfast feel most lived-in?

The Cathedral Quarter pulses with galleries, theatres, and late-night spots, though it skews touristy after dark. For a more residential rhythm, try the Ormeau Road — lined with indie cafés, bookshops, and Botanic Gardens nearby — or the Stranmillis embankment, where locals walk the Lagan at dusk. East Belfast, around Ballyhackamore, feels properly neighbourhood-y: bakeries, chip shops, front gardens. South Belfast around Queen's University has a student buzz but also tree-lined streets where families have lived for generations.
