Home Exchange in Guanacaste

No verified homes listed in Guanacaste yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The howler monkeys wake you before sunrise in Guanacaste, their calls rolling across dry forest canopy toward beaches where the Pacific meets volcanic sand. This is Costa Rica's sun-scorched northwest corner, where the rainy season paints everything emerald and the dry months turn the landscape to gold. Staying in a local home here means morning coffee on a terrace overlooking Tamarindo's surf breaks or evening walks through the cobbled streets of colonial Liberia, where sodas serve casado plates under ceiling fans. The homes below open the door to that rhythm—kitchens stocked with Salsa Lizano, hammocks strung between mango trees, and the kind of stillness that only comes when you're living somewhere, not just passing through.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best time to visit Guanacaste?

December through April is Guanacaste's dry season—endless blue skies, calm seas, and golden hillsides—but it's also peak tourist season along the coast. May through November brings afternoon rains that cool everything down, empty the beaches, and turn the landscape lush. The so-called 'green season' is beloved by locals for its lower prices, dramatic skies, and the way the forest comes alive. If you're chasing surf or wildlife, the shoulder months of November and May offer the best of both worlds.
