Home Exchange in La Fortuna
No verified homes listed in La Fortuna yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
The low rumble of Arenal Volcano becomes the soundtrack here, a reminder that La Fortuna sits in a landscape still shaping itself. Mornings smell like wet earth and wild ginger; by afternoon, the hot springs tucked into the rainforest edge are full of locals soaking off the day. This isn't a place you tick off a list—it's a place that asks you to slow down, to notice the three-toed sloth in the cecropia tree, to eat casado at the soda where no menu is printed because everyone already knows what's cooking. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to visit La Fortuna?
Dry season—December through April—brings the clearest volcano views and easiest trail access, though mornings can still be misty. Green season, May to November, means afternoon downpours and lush everything: waterfalls at full roar, fewer crowds, lower prices. The volcano creates its own microclimate, so pack layers either way. Locals will tell you the shoulder months—late November, early May—offer the best of both: manageable rain and that electric green the forest gets when it's been drinking deep.
