Home Exchange in Florence

No verified homes listed in Florence yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The clatter of shutters opening at dawn, the smell of fresh cornetti drifting from a corner bar, the slant of morning light on ochre stucco — Florence moves to a rhythm older than its Renaissance fame. Beyond the museum queues, the city reveals itself in neighbourhood trattorias where locals argue over Fiorentina cuts, in the Oltrarno workshops where artisans still gild frames by hand, in the early evening passeggiata along the Arno when the whole city seems to exhale. Staying in a Florentine home means waking to those shutters, shopping at San Lorenzo market with a canvas bag, learning which gelateria the nonnas trust. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Florence feel most local?

Oltrarno, across the river from the Duomo, holds the city's artisan soul — leather workshops, antique restorers, neighbourhood wine bars where tourists rarely wander. San Niccolò and Santo Spirito squares pulse with aperitivo life. North of the centre, San Marco and Santissima Annunziata offer quieter streets near the university, with morning markets and family-run alimentari. Santa Croce blends medieval lanes with contemporary energy. Each quartiere keeps its own patron saint festival and its own preferred bakery for schiacciata.
