Home Exchange in Bergen

No verified homes listed in Bergen yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Bergen wakes to the smell of salt and wet wood, the harbour already alive with gulls and the low hum of fishing boats. Tucked between seven mountains and the North Sea, this is a city where rain is a fact of life and locals have learned to love it — umbrellas are rare, good wool is not. To stay here like a resident means breakfast in a kitchen with a view of Fløyen's forested slopes, evenings in Nordnes where the light never quite dies in summer, and the kind of quiet that only comes from a place small enough to walk but deep enough to get lost in. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Bergen?

Late spring through early autumn offers the longest days and mildest weather, though rain is a constant companion year-round — pack layers, not hopes for endless sun. Winter brings cosy darkness and the chance to see the city as locals do: fireside, unhurried, with the mountains dusted in snow. Summer's midnight sun and accessible hiking trails draw the crowds, but May and September strike a gentler balance, with fewer tourists and the same dramatic light. Whenever you come, expect weather that changes by the hour and a city that's learned to thrive in it.
