Home Exchange in Stavanger
No verified homes listed in Stavanger yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Stavanger smells like salt and coffee, a city where wooden warehouses lean toward the harbour and fishermen's cottages climb the hills in shades of ochre and white. It's Norway's oil capital, yes, but also a place where you can walk cobbled lanes in Gamle Stavanger one hour and hike to Preikestolen's cliff edge the next. Staying in a local home here means waking to the rhythm of ferries and gulls, shopping at the fish market on Saturday mornings, and understanding why Norwegians build their lives around light—chasing it in summer, hoarding it in winter. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
When's the best time to visit Stavanger?
Late spring through early autumn (May to September) offers the longest daylight and warmest weather for hiking Pulpit Rock or island-hopping by ferry. July brings near-endless twilight but also peak crowds. Locals favour June and early September—still bright, less busy, and you'll catch the city between its winter introversion and summer exuberance. Winter is dark and wet, but if you're drawn to cosy interiors, wool blankets, and the particular beauty of a harbour town under low skies, January has its own stark charm.
