Home Exchange in Sweden

0 verified homes

Sweden unfolds in the scent of cardamom buns cooling on a kitchen counter, the creak of a wooden dock at the edge of an archipelago, the low slant of summer light that never quite sets. To stay here is to slip into a rhythm shaped by fika breaks, forest trails that start at the city's edge, and windows left open to let the pine-scented air move through. The difference between visiting and living shows itself in small things: knowing which bakery sells the best kanelbullar, learning to swim off smooth granite rocks, understanding that Swedes don't small-talk but will invite you to their summer cottage without hesitation. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to experience Sweden like a local?

Summer (June to August) brings endless daylight and a national migration to red cottages by the water—Swedes live outdoors, swimming in lakes and grilling on balconies. But locals also treasure September's mushroom-foraging season and the cosy darkness of winter, when cities glow with candles and fika culture reaches its peak. Spring arrives late but dramatically, with sudden warmth and cherry blossoms in Stockholm's parks. Each season has its own Swedish ritual, from Midsummer pole-dancing to December's glögg-fueled julbord feasts.
