Home Exchange in Santiago

No verified homes listed in Santiago yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Santiago sits in a basin cradled by the Andes, their snow-capped peaks visible from nearly every corner of the city. The air smells of empanadas frying in corner bakeries and eucalyptus drifting down from Cerro San Cristóbal. Neighbourhoods shift quickly here — Lastarria's cobblestones and art deco cafés give way to Bellavista's street murals and pisco bars, while Providencia hums with jacaranda-lined avenues and Sunday farmers' markets. Autumn turns the city golden, spring brings the cordillera into sharp relief, and even winter rarely loses its light.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Santiago?

Spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) offer the most comfortable weather — warm days, cool evenings, and the Andes at their most dramatic. Summer can be hot and hazy, though it's perfect for day trips to the coast or wine valleys. Winter brings rain and snow on the peaks, but the city itself stays mild, and you'll find fewer crowds at museums and markets. Shoulder seasons also mean clearer skies for those postcard views of the mountains from rooftop terraces.
