Home Exchange in Bogotá

No verified homes listed in Bogotá yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Bogotá sprawls across the Andean plateau at 2,600 metres, where the air is thin and the light feels sharper. Mornings start with ajiaco — a thick chicken and potato soup — and afternoons often end in the brick-lined bars of La Candelaria, the colonial heart. Cycle the Ciclovía on Sundays when main avenues close to cars, or ride the cable car up to Monserrate for a view that stretches to the mountains ringing the city. Chapinero pulses with street art and late-night empanadas; Usaquén keeps a village feel with its Sunday flea market. The city moves between extremes — formal and irreverent, cosmopolitan and deeply rooted.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the climate like in Bogotá year-round?

Bogotá sits high enough that seasons blur into daily weather roulette. Expect cool temperatures — jumpers in the morning, sun by noon, sudden rain by four. Locals call it 'eternal spring' but pack layers regardless. December through March tends drier; April and October bring heavier downpours. The altitude means UV is strong even on overcast days, and nights cool down quickly. It's a city where you learn to carry a jacket and an umbrella at the same time.
