Home Exchange in Cartagena

No verified homes listed in Cartagena yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Cartagena wraps you in humidity and history the moment you arrive. Behind the old walled city's coral-pink ramparts, bougainvillea spills over balconies and the smell of arepas de huevo drifts from street corners at dawn. Getsemaní pulses with salsa and street art, while the colonial centre hums with horse-drawn carriages on cobblestones. Beyond the fortifications, the Caribbean laps at beaches where pelicans dive and vendors sell ceviche from coolers. Evenings here taste like coco loco and feel like warm rain on your shoulders.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Cartagena?

December through March brings dry skies and steady breezes, though it's also peak season—expect crowds in the old town and higher prices. April and May can be sultry but quieter, with occasional afternoon showers that clear fast. September and October see the heaviest rain, but mornings are often bright, and you'll have plazas nearly to yourself. The heat is constant year-round, so come ready for shade, cold showers, and slow afternoons by the water.
