Home Exchange in Medellín

No verified homes listed in Medellín yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

In Medellín, the smell of arepas frying drifts through open windows at dawn, and the cable cars that climb the valley walls double as morning commutes and accidental sightseeing. The city's spring-like climate means jacarandas bloom year-round, and locals linger over tinto—thick, sweet coffee—at corner tiendas rather than rushing through their days. Staying in a home here means waking to the rhythm of a neighbourhood: the fruit vendor's call, the hum of the metro below, the way El Poblado's cafés fill at dusk while Laureles families gather on their balconies. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Medellín feel most local?

Laureles offers tree-lined streets, family-run bakeries, and a slower pace—locals call it the city's living room. El Poblado skews younger and more international, with rooftop bars and design studios, while Envigado to the south feels like a small town that never quite let go of its plaza culture. The eastern neighbourhoods, connected by cable car, reveal the city's transformation: community libraries, street art, and panoramic views that remind you Medellín is a valley city, always climbing toward sky.
