Home Exchange in Zagreb

No verified homes listed in Zagreb yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Zagreb hums with a particular Central European charm—grand Austro-Hungarian facades painted in ochre and cream, trams rattling through wide boulevards, and café terraces that fill at the first hint of spring sun. The Upper Town's cobbled lanes wind past medieval towers and red-tiled rooftops, while below, Dolac Market overflows with paprika strings, fresh cheese, and vendors who'll insist you try their rakija. Evenings drift between konobas serving štrukli and wine bars tucked into courtyards, the city moving at a pace that feels unhurried, almost defiant of the rest of Europe's rush.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods capture Zagreb's character best?

Gornji Grad—the Upper Town—offers medieval charm and postcard views, all stone gates and gas lamps. Below, Donji Grad stretches green and grandiose, with parks, museums, and the pulse of daily life along Ilica Street. For a more local rhythm, wander Trešnjevka or Maksimir, where residential blocks give way to market stalls and family-run bakeries. Each neighbourhood shifts in mood, but all share that unmistakable Zagreb mix: a little melancholy, a lot of warmth, and coffee culture that borders on religion.
