Home Exchange in Turku

No verified homes listed in Turku yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Turku sits where the Aura River meets the Baltic, a city that wears its age lightly. Finland's oldest town and former capital, it hums with a quieter confidence than Helsinki — medieval castle and cathedral anchor the waterfront, while wooden houses in neighbourhoods like Luostarinmäki whisper stories from centuries past. Summer brings endless light and riverside terraces alive with kalakukko and cider; winter wraps the archipelago in ice, and the Christmas market glows against early darkness. The river is the city's living room, crossed by bridges where locals pause to watch swans and ferries.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Turku?

Summer, especially June through August, offers nearly round-the-clock daylight and the warmest weather for exploring the archipelago by bike or boat. The city's riverside comes alive with festivals and outdoor dining. December has its own magic — the medieval Christmas market and Lucia processions light up the darkest weeks. Spring and autumn are quieter, ideal if you prefer uncrowded museums and cosy café culture, though pack layers; the Baltic wind has opinions.
