Home Exchange in Cologne
No verified homes listed in Cologne yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Cologne unfolds along the Rhine in layers: the twin spires of the Dom catching light above rooftops, cobbled lanes in the Altstadt still smelling of Kölsch and mustard, then the galleries and studios spreading through Ehrenfeld. Summer means river promenades crowded with cyclists and Biergarten tables; winter brings the glow of Christmas markets and the faint scent of Glühwein drifting through Neumarkt. The city moves to its own rhythm—relaxed, a little irreverent, deeply social. Stay in a Südstadt apartment with tall windows, or a Belgisches Viertel flat where bakeries open early and bars stay open late.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which neighbourhoods in Cologne feel most local?
Ehrenfeld pulses with studios, vintage shops, and late-night bars—creative and unpretentious. The Belgisches Viertel (Belgian Quarter) draws a younger crowd to its cafés and independent boutiques, especially around Brüsseler Platz. Südstadt offers tree-lined streets, weekend markets, and a residential calm just south of the centre. For something quieter, Nippes and Sülz have neighbourhood bakeries, parks, and the kind of corner Kneipe where regulars still gather. The Altstadt is charming but tourist-heavy; locals tend to live and socialise in the ring of quarters just beyond.
