Home Exchange in Dresden

No verified homes listed in Dresden yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Dresden still hums with the baroque echo of church bells and the quiet rush of the Elbe cutting through sandstone cliffs. It's a city rebuilt from ash, where gold-leaf domes rise beside brutalist housing blocks, and locals queue for Eierschecke in century-old konditorei. Staying here isn't about ticking off the Zwinger and the Frauenkirche in a day — it's about riding the tram to Neustadt for natural wine in a former squat, buying radishes at the Lingnermarkt on Saturday mornings, or cycling the Elberadweg into Saxon Switzerland as the mist lifts. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Dresden feel most local?

Neustadt, across the river from the old town, is where Dresden lives rather than performs — cobbled streets lined with indie bookshops, Kneipen pouring Radeberger, and graffiti-splashed courtyards hosting pop-up cinemas. Further out, Blasewitz and Loschwitz hug the Elbe with villa-lined streets and hillside vineyards, quieter and green. Avoid basing yourself solely in Altstadt if you want breakfast spots where you'll hear Saxon dialect rather than tour-group English.
