Home Exchange in Dresden

No verified homes listed in Dresden yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Dresden unfolds along the Elbe like a living argument between ruin and restoration. Baroque cupolas catch the light above cobbled squares where the scent of Dresdner Stollen drifts from bakery windows each December. The Neustadt hums with vinyl shops and corner bars serving Radeberger, while across the river, the Zwinger's courtyards hold centuries of porcelain and Old Master canvases. Cyclists trace the water toward Saxon Switzerland's sandstone cliffs, and summer evenings stretch long on the Elbe meadows, where locals spread blankets and uncork wine as the Frauenkirche glows amber against the dusk.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Dresden feel most lived-in?

The Äußere Neustadt—outer Neustadt—remains Dresden's beating heart, a tangle of pre-war tenements painted in faded pastels, lined with independent cafés, second-hand bookshops, and late-night Kneipen. Locals call it the Buntes Republik Neustadt, and it still carries a bohemian edge. Across the river, Striesen and Blasewitz offer tree-lined streets and Gründerzeit architecture, quieter but no less authentic. For markets and morning routines, try the Lingnerplatz area on Saturdays, where neighbours queue for fresh Quark and seasonal vegetables.
