Home Exchange in Guanajuato

No verified homes listed in Guanajuato yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Guanajuato spills down a ravine in waves of ochre, terracotta, and sunflower yellow, its colonial streets so narrow that balconies nearly touch across the gap. This is a city of tunnels and plazas, where mariachis echo off stone at dusk and the smell of carnitas drifts from corner fondas. Callejones twist upward past Diego Rivera's birthplace and student murals, opening suddenly onto mirador views that stretch across the entire basin. It's a university town with a romantic, slightly bohemian pulse — alive with theatre, street festivals, and the kind of cafés where conversations linger long after the coffee's gone.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best way to experience Guanajuato's neighbourhoods?

Wander on foot and embrace the verticality. The historic centre around Jardín de la Unión and Plaza de la Paz hums with energy, while the hillside barrios like Pastita and Cata offer quieter, more local rhythms. Don't miss the callejoneadas — evening walking tours led by student troubadours through lamplit alleys, blending folklore, music, and mezcal. The underground roadways, originally riverbeds, make for a surreal drive, but the real magic happens above ground, where every climb rewards you with another postcard view.
