Home Exchange in Rotterdam

No verified homes listed in Rotterdam yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Rotterdam doesn't whisper its history — it shouts its future. Rebuilt after wartime devastation, this port city trades canal-house charm for daring architecture: the Cube Houses tilt at impossible angles, the Markthal's ceiling explodes in colour, and the Erasmus Bridge arcs like a swan's neck over the Maas. Wander Witte de Withstraat for natural wine bars and Indonesian rijsttafel, or cycle through Kralingen's leafy parks where locals picnic by the lake. The air smells of salt and coffee from the docks, and every neighbourhood — from the vintage shops of Noord to the rooftop farms of Delfshaven — feels like it's inventing itself as you watch.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods capture Rotterdam's character best?

Kralingen offers green calm and waterside cafés, while Noord pulses with studios, breweries, and weekend markets in converted warehouses. Delfshaven preserves cobbled streets and gabled houses — Pilgrim Fathers sailed from here in 1620. The city centre is all glass and steel, but Katendrecht, once a rough dockside quarter, now mixes old pubs with new restaurants along the Maas. Each district feels distinct; cycling between them takes minutes, and the contrasts are part of Rotterdam's restless energy.
