Home Exchange in Utrecht
No verified homes listed in Utrecht yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Utrecht hums with the sound of bicycle bells echoing off medieval stone, a rhythm older than Amsterdam's tourist crowds and quieter than Rotterdam's cranes. The canals here sit a storey below street level, their brick cellars now wine bars and bookshops where locals linger over borrel on Friday afternoons. Spring floods the city with students and wisteria; autumn belongs to the Saturday Vredenburg market and long dinners in Wittevrouwen kitchens. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which neighbourhoods in Utrecht feel most local?
Wittevrouwen, just east of the Dom, offers tree-lined streets and neighbourhood bakeries without the canal-side crowds. Lombok, west of the centre, has a village feel with its Wednesday market and family-run Moroccan grocers. Both sit within easy cycling distance of the old town but keep their own quiet pace—the kind of streets where you nod to the same faces at the corner café each morning.
