Home Exchange in Queenstown
No verified homes listed in Queenstown yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Queenstown clings to the edge of Lake Wakatipu, ringed by jagged peaks that shift from snow-dusted to sun-baked depending on the season. It's a place where adrenaline and alpine calm coexist — mornings might mean coffee on a lakefront deck watching steamers glide past, afternoons could involve canyon swings or vineyard trails in nearby Gibbston. The town itself is compact and walkable, with stone-and-timber buildings housing everything from pie shops to gear outfitters. Beyond the adventure reputation, there's a quieter rhythm here: golden-hour light on the Remarkables, the scent of schist and tussock on hiking tracks, and the kind of clarity that comes from being surrounded by mountains and water.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
What's the best time to visit Queenstown?
Winter (June to August) transforms Queenstown into a ski hub, with nearby slopes and a cosy après-ski scene. Summer (December to February) brings long daylight hours perfect for lake swimming, hiking, and vineyard tours — though it's also peak season. Autumn (March to May) offers golden poplars and fewer crowds, while spring (September to November) can be unpredictable but beautifully uncrowded. Each season has its own character, so it depends whether you're chasing powder, trails, or solitude.
