Home Exchange in Arequipa

No verified homes listed in Arequipa yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Arequipa sits at the foot of three volcanoes, its colonial core built from white sillar stone that glows amber at sunset. The city moves to its own rhythm — slower than Lima, more cosmopolitan than Cusco — where picanterías serve rocoto relleno at long communal tables and the Santa Catalina monastery feels like a village within the city. Mornings start with café pasado in Yanahuara, afternoons fade into the arcades of the Plaza de Armas, and evenings bring the cool mountain air that reminds you you're at 2,300 metres, surrounded by desert and peaks.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best time to visit Arequipa?

The dry season from April to November brings clear skies and perfect volcano views, with May through September offering the sharpest mountain light. December to March sees occasional afternoon rain but fewer crowds and greener canyon landscapes. The city's altitude keeps temperatures mild year-round — warm days, cool nights — though you'll want layers. Many travellers time visits around Semana Santa in spring, when processions fill the historic centre with candlelight and incense.
