Home Exchange in Cusco

No verified homes listed in Cusco yet β€” the first hosts get priority placement.

Cusco sits in a high Andean bowl where Inca stonework meets Spanish colonial arches, and the air tastes thin and bright. Mornings smell of fresh bread and eucalyptus; evenings hum with the clink of pisco glasses in San Blas. The city moves slower at 3,400 metres β€” you learn to walk like a local, pausing on steep cobbled lanes to catch your breath and admire a trapezoidal doorway that's stood for six centuries. Beyond the Plaza de Armas, neighbourhoods like San CristΓ³bal and Santa Ana feel lived-in, laundry strung between terracotta roofs, women in layered skirts selling anticuchos from corner grills.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network β€” always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews β€” reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes β€” you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Cusco?

The dry season from May to September brings crisp blue skies and cold nights β€” ideal for trekking and wandering the city without rain. June hosts Inti Raymi, the grand Inca sun festival. The wet season from November to March turns the hills emerald and brings afternoon downpours, but fewer crowds and lower prices. Shoulder months like April and October split the difference. Whenever you come, spend at least two days acclimatising to the altitude before any strenuous activity β€” drink coca tea, walk slowly, and let the city reveal itself at its own pace.
