Home Exchange in Bucharest

No verified homes listed in Bucharest yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Bucharest unfolds in layers: Belle Époque mansions lean against brutalist blocks, while Orthodox domes catch the light above tree-lined boulevards. The scent of mici on the grill drifts from beer gardens in summer, and the Lipscani cobblestones hum with chatter until late. Beyond the grand avenues, neighbourhoods like Cotroceni and Dorobanți reveal quiet courtyards and corner bakeries where locals queue for covrigi. It's a city that rewards wandering—where a thermal bath, a vast bookshop in a former mansion, or a hidden garden can appear around any corner.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Bucharest feel most local?

Cotroceni offers leafy streets and the presidential palace's gardens, while Dorobanți mixes interwar villas with neighbourhood cafés. Floreasca, near Herăstrău Park, has a residential rhythm and lakeside paths. Lipscani is the medieval heart—cobbled, lively, touristy by day but atmospheric at dusk. For a quieter slice of daily life, try Armenească or the blocks around Obor Market, where you'll hear more Romanian than English and find family-run patisseries that haven't changed in decades.
