Home Exchange in Kiruna

No verified homes listed in Kiruna yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Kiruna sits two hundred kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, where winter nights stretch into blue twilight and summer refuses to set. The town itself is slowly moving eastward—buildings lifted and relocated as the iron mine beneath expands—a strange, patient ballet of cranes and trucks. Reindeer wander the birch forests at the edges of town. The Sámi culture runs deep here: you'll find duodji craftwork in small studios, and if you're lucky, joik singing drifting from a community hall. Come winter, the sky fills with green curtains. Come June, the sun circles overhead like a restless bird.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Kiruna?

Winter—December through March—is peak aurora season, with deep cold and reliable snow for dog sledding or snowmobile trips into the backcountry. Late May through July brings the midnight sun: endless daylight, wildflowers on the tundra, and hiking weather in the Abisko range. September offers a quieter shoulder season with autumn colours and a chance to catch early northern lights before the deep freeze. Each season feels like a different planet.
