Home Exchange in Uppsala

No verified homes listed in Uppsala yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Uppsala hums with a quiet intellectual energy, its cobbled streets winding between the rust-red cathedral and the pale neoclassical university buildings where Linnaeus once lectured. In spring, students sprawl on the lawns along the Fyris River with coffee and cardamom buns; by midsummer, the whole city seems to migrate to the water. The old town's wooden houses lean gently toward each other, painted in ochre and sage, while the castle on the hill watches over everything. It's a place where you can browse rare manuscripts in the morning and swim in a forest lake by afternoon, where fika is a daily ritual and the light never quite fades in June.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 10 free credits, so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All messages run through our encrypted chat. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the rhythm of life like in Uppsala?

Uppsala moves to an academic calendar—lively and buzzing during term time, quieter and more contemplative in summer when students leave and locals reclaim the parks. The city wakes late and lingers over coffee. Fika culture is serious here; you'll find neighbourhood cafés full at 3pm on a Tuesday. Cycling is the default mode—bike lanes thread through every neighbourhood. Evenings tend toward the cosy: a beer at a pub in the Svartbäcken district, or a walk along the river as the sky turns lilac. Swedes value their nature access, so even city-dwellers disappear into the forests on weekends.
