Home Exchange in Playa del Carmen

No verified homes listed in Playa del Carmen yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

The morning here arrives with the smell of corn tortillas on the comal and the rhythmic slap of waves against the pier. Playa del Carmen sits between two worlds: the turquoise calm of the Caribbean and the jungle hum just blocks inland, where ceiba trees tower over taco stands and mezcalerías. Hotels line the beach, but the real texture lives in the colonias north of Constituyentes — markets that open at dawn, palapas where fishermen still mend nets, streets where Spanish mixes with Mayan and the pace refuses to hurry. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

When's the best time to visit Playa del Carmen?

November through April brings dry skies and gentle heat, though the town fills with snowbirds and prices climb. May and October frame the rainy season with brief afternoon storms and empty beaches — the water stays warm, the jungle greens up, and you'll have the cenotes nearly to yourself. Hurricane season peaks August through September, but locals know the morning light and the street food never take a day off.
