Home Exchange in Mexico City
No verified homes listed in Mexico City yet — the first hosts get priority placement.
Mexico City wakes to the smell of corn masa on a comal and the sound of gas tanks clanging through cobbled streets. This is a place where breakfast might last until two, where a single neighbourhood holds a Frida Kahlo museum, a boxing gym older than your grandparents, and a taquería that's been folding the same suadero since 1952. Hotels put you near the sights; a local home puts you inside the rhythm — the mercado run on Sunday, the tamale vendor's whistle at dawn, the terrace where jacaranda petals collect in spring. The homes below open the door to that cadence.

Frequently asked questions
How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?
You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.
Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?
Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.
Do I need to swap directly with the same person?
No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.
Can I join if I don't own a home?
Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.
Which neighbourhoods in Mexico City feel most local?
Roma and Condesa draw the café crowd and tree-lined walks, but Coyoacán still moves to a village tempo — markets, tile-fronted cantinas, Sunday in the plaza. San Rafael and Santa María la Ribera offer Art Nouveau architecture and fewer tourists. For altitude and calm, seek the southern colonias near Viveros de Coyoacán. Transport is easy: the Metro reaches most corners, and neighbourhoods reveal themselves best on foot or by bike.
