Home Exchange in Jakarta

No verified homes listed in Jakarta yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Jakarta wakes to the call of street vendors and the hum of motorbikes weaving through kampung alleyways, where a grandmother fries pisang goreng on a corner and office towers rise like glass cliffs beyond the red-tiled roofs. This is a city that rewards immersion over itinerary—where the best nasi goreng comes from a warung with no sign, and Sunday mornings in Menteng feel like a different century under the rain trees. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

Which neighbourhoods in Jakarta feel most lived-in?

Menteng and Kemang offer tree-lined streets and a mix of colonial villas and local cafés, while Kelapa Gading in the north has family-friendly enclaves near traditional markets. South Jakarta—especially around Cipete and Senopati—balances residential quiet with walkable food scenes. For a grittier, more authentic pulse, the kampung neighbourhoods scattered throughout the city reveal Jakarta's layered history, though they're best explored with a local guide or neighbour.
