Home Exchange in Lombok

No verified homes listed in Lombok yet — the first hosts get priority placement.

Lombok hums to a slower frequency than its famous neighbour. Here, the call to prayer drifts over rice terraces still worked by hand, and the scent of sambal and grilled fish rises from warungs where locals gather at dusk. The island rewards those who stay long enough to notice the rhythm: mornings at the market in Mataram, afternoons when the light turns golden on Kuta's southern beaches, evenings when the volcano's silhouette sharpens against the sky. Trading a resort for a local home means waking to roosters instead of buffet lines, learning which stall makes the best nasi campur, and understanding why Sasak families leave offerings at the doorway each morning. The homes below open the door to that rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

How does home exchange on SwappaHome work?

You list your home, earn 1 credit for every night you host a guest, and spend those credits to stay at any other home in the network — always 1 credit per night. No money changes hands between members. New accounts start with 7 free credits — one full week — so you can book your first trip before you've hosted anyone.

Is it safe to swap homes with strangers?

Every member goes through identity verification before they can list or book. All conversations happen inside the SwappaHome platform — you never have to share your personal email or phone number to coordinate a swap. After each stay, guests and hosts leave mutual reviews — reputation is the foundation of the whole community, and members with low ratings lose access. For extra peace of mind, we recommend confirming house rules in writing before arrival.

Do I need to swap directly with the same person?

No. SwappaHome uses a credit system, not direct 1-to-1 swaps. You can host a family from Berlin and use the credits you earn to stay with a completely different host in Tokyo six months later. It makes travel dates, destinations and group sizes much easier to match.

Can I join if I don't own a home?

Yes — you can earn credits by hosting in a spare room, a long-term rental (if your lease allows guests) or by gifting/receiving credits from other members. You can also buy a starter pack if you want to travel before you host. Listing your primary home is the most common path, but it's not the only one.

What's the best way to experience Lombok beyond the beaches?

Stay in or near the central villages around Mataram and Senggigi to experience daily Sasak life—morning markets, ceramic workshops in Banyumulek, traditional weaving villages like Sukarare. The cooler months from May to September are ideal for trekking Mount Rinjani or exploring the inland waterfalls. Renting a scooter gives you freedom to follow the back roads through tobacco fields and stop at roadside warungs, though drivers are easy to hire for longer trips to the Gili islands or the untouristed south coast.
